Free website audit, with clear next steps

Check your page’s speed, search basics, accessibility and best practice with Google Lighthouse. See a phone preview and plain-English fixes from our Sherborne studio.

How the free website audit works

Start with the page your customers use most. The report helps you choose what to review first.

  1. Enter your website address

No sign-up is needed to see your first results. Enter a public page address. The test does not change your website.

  2. We run Google’s checks

Google Lighthouse tests the page on a simulated phone, with a desktop comparison when available.

  3. Get your score and fixes

See your score and top three fixes straight away. Add your email to unlock every fix, explained in plain English.

What the website health check covers

Four automated checks and a phone preview, with practical explanations of the results.

  • Speed

How quickly the page loads and how much work the browser does in Google’s test. Real-visitor data appears where Google supplies it.

  • Search

Basic checks for titles, descriptions, crawl settings and links. These do not prove that Google has indexed the page. How we help businesses get found

  • Accessibility

Automated checks for text contrast, image descriptions, labelled buttons and forms. A full accessibility review also needs manual testing.

  • Best practice

Checks for HTTPS, browser errors and selected code issues. A full security review goes further.

  • First impression on a phone

A screenshot and loading filmstrip show what Google’s test browser sees. Available checks flag text contrast, tap targets and screen settings. See our branding work

What’s a good score?

  • 90 to 100: good

Most scored checks passed. Review any remaining issues in the fix list.

  • 50 to 89: needs some work

Some checks need attention. Use the fix list to choose where to start.

  • Below 50: needs attention

Review the flagged issues, starting with the highest-priority fix.

Your overall score is our summary of Google’s four tests: speed and search count 30% each, accessibility and best practice 20% each. Google does not use this combined score to rank your site. It is a guide to the checks in this report.

Phone and desktop scores can differ because the tests use different device and connection settings. Your results describe this test run.

Want a human opinion? Ask for a Studio Crit

A “crit” is what designers call a critique. Tick the box when you unlock your report and one of our designers will record a free five-minute video going through your homepage: what works, what to change first, and why. There’s no obligation.

Free website audit questions

Is the website audit really free?

Yes. Your score and top fixes are free with no sign-up. To see every fix in detail we ask for your email. You don’t have to agree to hear from us to get the report.

Is my website mobile friendly?

Look at “First impression on a phone” for the screenshot and available checks. Then test the page on a real phone, including its menus and forms. An automated result does not cover every interaction.

Why is my score lower on a phone?

The phone test uses different device and connection settings from the desktop test. Heavy images, scripts and slow responses can affect the result. The report uses the phone scores for its summary.

Why does my score change when I run it again?

Results can change with the server response, page content and test conditions. Compare repeated runs and review the underlying issues alongside the score.

How often should I check my website?

After a substantial change, such as a new design, plugin or homepage image. Repeat checks when you notice a problem, and compare the results with earlier runs.

Is this the same as Google PageSpeed Insights?

It uses the same engine, Google Lighthouse, through Google’s PageSpeed Insights service. We add plain-English explanations, a first-impression check and advice on what to fix first. We’re an independent studio, not affiliated with Google.

Will fixing these improve my Google ranking?

These checks identify technical issues worth reviewing. They do not predict rankings or confirm indexing. Search visibility also depends on relevant content and other signals beyond this audit.

Does it check my whole website?

It checks the public page address you enter, usually the homepage. If you’d like a deeper look, we can review your whole site.

What do you do with my details?

To run the test, your browser sends the page address to Google, which also receives your IP address. If you unlock the report, your details, results and choices are sent to our team through Web3Forms. We contact you about a requested Studio Crit or redesign concept, or if you choose to hear from us about your results. You can unsubscribe at any time. Read our privacy policy.

Can you fix the problems for me?

Yes. We design, build and improve websites for businesses across Dorset and Somerset. Get in touch after your audit and we’ll talk you through the options.
